These fine animal illustrations by M. P. Verneuil and M. E. Grasset are the latest addition to Panteek's offerings of French Art Nouveau prints.
Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869-1942) turned from architectural studies to art, apprenticing under Grasset. Master and pupil shared an appreciation for Japanese art, and Verneuil drew inspiration from Asian handicrafts and art.
Each print is from an original 1897 folio. The colors are very fresh and vibrant on a heavy, creamy stock. There are fine lithographed plates, many heightened with silver and gold and this work is one of the most influential works in the Art Nouveau movement. The plates show a spectacular mix between realism, with the animals portrayed accurately and in great detail, and romanticism. Each print measures approximately 13 1/2 inches wide by 19 inches long.
