These prints are of the magnificent soft paste porcelain of Sevres, France. When Chinese porcelain was first introduced into Europe by Venetian traders in the 14th Century, it was one of the great wonders and mysteries of the world. Many efforts were made to reproduce it in France. Finally, the discovery that special types of clay were the foundation of soft paste porcelain gave the French porcelain industry its start in the early 1700s. The Sevres porcelain factory was founded, backed by none other than Louis XV.

Sevres went on to produce some of the most beautiful and highly prized porcelain of all time, widely collected by prominent & royal families all over the world, including the Kings & Queens of England, Marie Antoinette of France, and in current times most of the museums of the world.

In these prints, we see some of the most splendid products of this wonderful age of soft paste porcelain, which terminated in 1804 with the discovery of hard paste porcelain. The colors in the prints are absolutely magnificent, being heightened by application of genuine gold paint, as in the original porcelain.

Each print is on heavy paper. The generous margins are not fully shown in the images. These particular prints are from the rare Royal Folio Edition, limited to 283 copies. They are superbly decorative, especially well placed in the dining room or kitchen.
