Dr. David Dietrich’s monumental work, The Flora Universalis, was published in 1828-1861 by August Schmid in Jena, Germany. These beautiful original hand colored copper plate engravings are in the folio edition size of approximately 9 1/2 inches wide by 15 1/2 inches long. They are beautifully hand-colored engraved plates with vivid coloration after works by such illustrious botanical illustrators as de Candolle, Wildenows and Sprengels. The condition of the plates is excellent, remarkable for a work that is almost 200 years old. The paper is soft white to pale creamy, with little foxing, strong plate marks & Whatman watermarks. Please review the photos carefully as they are very accurate. ALL our prints are original antiques, and are guaranteed to be the stated age.
