We are offering a selection of maps from this now extremely scarce & beautiful work, The Complete System of Geography, by Charles Theodore Middleton, published in 1778. Landscapes and peoples of Asia, Africa, America, and many other exotic locales are depicted, typically based on descriptions brought to the engravers in England from afar. These images accompanied written descriptions of authors exploring foreign lands, feeding the public's hunger to see the world - at least on paper. Each print measures approximately 9 3/4 by 14 3/4 inches. The images, on soft white chain lined paper, is superbly hand colored by our English colorists.
We are delighted to present a small selection of original antique maps from 1690 to 1856. It includes Thos. Bowen, The World, including the North Pole 1775, Six Days of Creation of Earth by Claude Buy de Mornas 1768, C. Smith, 1808 map of America showing California as an island and several more. Each is an original antique map of different size and age.
