We are currently offering a selection of volumes from Unterhaltungen aus der Naturgeschichte or Conversations from Natural History by Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm (1758-1811) published in Ausberg, Germany in 1810-1821

There are 25 volumes in all with a huge range of subjects including exotic plants, fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, fish, birds, reptiles & mammals. The prints are original hand colored copper engravings very brightly hand colored.

The volume offered shows birds of prey including owls, parrots, raptors, toucans and the extinct dodo and the extinct great auk. The binding is in good condition for its age of over 200 years and still strong with a 1/4 calf binding with marbled paper boards and worn spine slightly chipped at top as shown with gold lettering and design. Interior end papers white with some foxing.  Measures 10 1/4 by 6 3/4 inches open and each print is approximately 4 1/4 by 6 1/2 inches The 45 prints, including the title page, and text are all very clean, with little foxing and are attached to blank paper and not directly bound into the volume as shown.
