George Brookshaw (ca. 1751-1823)  started life as a cabinet maker achieving prominence due to his innovative furniture often hand painted with floral designs.  This successful career came to an abrupt end in the 1790's possibly due to a scandal that also caused the breakup of his marriage to a wealthy woman.

The next 10 years were spend under the alias of G. Brown when he largely survived by teaching flower painting to young women.

In 1812 he published "Pomona Britannica" illustrating fruit grown in the greenhouses and gardens of the upper classes. In 1816 he published the work "A New Treatise of Flower Painting," from which we are showing illustrations of flowers and birds.

Each superb original hand colored engraving measures approximately 15 by 10 1/2  inches and it in excellent condition on creamy white paper with vivid hand coloring and a text which gives instructions on how to color each print. These  prints are guaranteed to be authentic antique prints over 215  years old and are now exceedingly rare.
