This selection of prints is from the “German Butterflies, with consideration of all the genera of Europe", a very scarce work on butterflies by Dr J. C. Kayser.

The vivid colors truly capture the evanescence and fragility of these fabulous insects. Many plates depict the caterpillars & feeding plants & merge the scientific & the decorative aspects in a rare symphony of beauty.

The paper is a thick, high quality paper, creamy in color with strong plate marks. The condition of the prints is excellent, with the very occasional light fox mark, mostly in the margins & easy to frame out. They are all beautifully hand colored original engravings about 165 years old
