We call him honest & temperate VE16 $175
Each print measures approximately 6 3/4 by 9 3/4 inches

This whimsical and rare work is by Amedee Varin who also contributed to the better known “Fleurs Animees.”  Varin (1818-1883) was an artist and illustrator and a member of the illustrious Beaux Art School in Paris. Similar to the Fleurs Animees, but personifying vegetables instead of flowers, each print includes a satirical phrase or title, very much in the genre of political satire of the day exemplified by the work of Grandville.

It is a rare work indeed, almost never appearing on the print market. This copy is almost pristine, exceptionally unusual in such a rare work. It is entirely original in every way and the hand colouring was done at the time of issue.  Each print measures approximately 6 3/4 by 9 3/4 inches.
