While our images are electronically watermarked, the antique prints themselves are not.

Iridina ovata RVC33 $75
Each print measures approximately 6 inches by 10 inches.

We are pleased to offer a selection of prints from L.A. Reeve’s Elements of Conchology, published in 1846-1860. The two volumes of this introduction to the natural history of shells feature many hand-colored plates of shells.

Lovell Reeve (1814-1865) discovered shells while working as a grocer’s apprentice. Conchology became his primary passion and his consequent interest in natural history led to a Fellowship in the Linnaean Society. The Linnaean Society assisted in the publication of first book Conchologia Systematica in 1841. Within the decade he became a publisher himself, printing his own natural history works and stereo photographs.

Each print measures approximately 6 by 10 inches, with original hand colouring enhanced with gum arabic. There is no foxing on heavy cream paper. All of our prints are authentic antique prints, and these are approximately 150 years old.
