Each print measures approximately 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches

We are offering a selection of original hand colored engravings from the 1857 edition of Henry Leonard Meyer's Illustrations of British Birds and Their Eggs. Henry, who specialized in ornithological subjects,  was assisted by his children with the hand coloring of the engravings in these volumes. The three girls (Mary Henrietta, Constance, and Margaret) were competent artists, exhibiting flower paintings in London exhibitions 1866-1929. Of the three sons, only Charles John Adrian helped with 'The drawings of the eggs...who also invented a process of stencilling the colouring of the figures of both the folio and octavo which were all issued in monthly parts'.  Ref: Jackson p. 362

The hand coloring in these plates is exquisite. The delicate features of each bird has been painstakingly rendered with pristine accuracy.  Exhibiting a naif & almost primitive quality, these hand colored bird engravings glow on the page.

Each print measures approximately 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches.  The photos are very accurate, so please review carefully. All our prints are authentic antique prints and guaranteed to be from the date stated.
