Cossua, Noctua Moths LCB66 $75
Each print measures approximately 5 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches long

We are pleased to offer a selection of  these extremely rare, hand colored butterfly engravings from the fist edition of Histoire Naturelle des Lepidopteres d’Europe 1834,  by H. P. Lucas, drawn from nature by A. Noel. This edition depicts almost 400 different butterflies on 80 plates.

Hippolyte Pierre Lucas (1814-1899) started work as an apprentice in the Zoological department of the Paris Museum of Natural History at the age of thirteen and wrote this work at the age of 20. He also completed another equally beautiful work on exotic butterflies during this time.

Each print measures approximately 5 1/2 inches by 9 inches, and is in excellent condition, without foxing, on white, high quality paper. A copy of the title page will be included with each print.  The prints are vibrantly hand colored and wonderfully decorative.  At about 175 years old, these original hand colored prints are as fresh as the long ago day they were published.
