The striking floral illustrations by M.P. Verneuil and other Art Nouveau artists are the latest addition to Panteek's offerings of French Art Deco pochoir prints. This outstanding folio was published in 1896 under the direction of famed graphic designer, author and teacher Eugène Grasset, whose creations became cornerstones of Art Nouveau patterns and motifs.  Many of the images have been reproduced by Dover Books and various poster companies, so we are doubly delighted to offer the ORIGINALS at a reasonable price.

Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869-1942) turned from architectural studies to art, apprenticing under Grasset. Master and pupil shared an appreciation for Japanese art, and Verneuil drew inspiration from Asian handicrafts and art. Other students of Grasset represented in this collection are Marc Mangin, Anna Martin, J. Milesi, E. Hervegh, and Marcelle Gaudin. Each print identifies the artist in a lower corner of the image.

The dramatically vivid colors were created by the “pochoir” process, wherein single layers of color were added by hand to a lithograph using a stencil, in a precursor of the silk screening technique which is now widely used for art prints. 

Each print is from an original 1896 folio.  Each flower in the collection is given three prints: a rendering of the actual plant, patterns utilizing that plant, and designs for decorative items with the plant's motif.  The colors are very fresh and vibrant on a heavy,  creamy stock. Each print measures approximately 13 inches wide by 18 inches long.
