Vixen, a Thoroughbred Scotch Terrier LS25 $45
Each print measures approximately 12 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches.

We are delighted to offer a selection hand colored prints from Engravings of Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Leopards, Dogs, &c. by Thomas Landseer and published in London, 1853. The engravings are after illustrations by Thomas and his famous brother Sir Edwin Landseer, and other artists such as E. Spilsbury, G.H. Laporte, Charles d'Oyly, and R. Hills.

Edwin Landseer is one of the most famous English painters of animals. He began his career as an artist at an early age, having executed nine drawings by the age of five, and exhibiting paintings at the Royal Academy by age thirteen. Edwin’s talents endeared him to the aristocracy and the burgeoning middle class of Victorian England.  His work was largely disseminated by his brother Thomas, who produced engraved works after Edwin’s paintings.

Each print is in excellent condition on a heavy white paper with strong plate marks and no foxing. These prints have been expertly hand colored by one of the last remaining English colorists. Each print measures approximately 12 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches.
