G.B. KNOWLES & FREDERIC WESTCOTT 1837 -1840
THE FLORAL CABINET & MAGAZINE OF EXOTIC BOTANY

This was another ambitious floral publication in an era of many. The goal of the author was to produce a periodical of plants remarkable for their beauty and rarity and illustrated by well know artists of the day. These included such illustrious names as de Candolle, Lindley, Hooker, J. Bateman as well as the authors themselves. It is rare, as it amounted to only three volumes, in one edition only. There are 137 hand colored lithographed plates, with some truly magnificent botanical illustrations. Reference: Great Flower Books 1990, p 108.

The prints are in excellent condition, with the colors of a beauty and vividness unsurpassed to this day in the world of hand colored prints. The paper is white to creamy and the colors very intense. Each print measures approximately 8 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches long. There is very little foxing. Some prints are a bit toned or offset, as shown.

Each print is accompanied by the ORIGINAL text and a copy of the title page. Please review the photos carefully as they are very accurate.
