Grandville Fleurs Animees 1867

This delightful work by J. J. Grandville was published in 1867. Each hand-colored print represents one or two flowers beautifully personified, mostly by exquisite flower-decked young belles and the occasional animal. Each is a tableau of perfection and artistic composition that makes these prints unusual even in the annals of botanical prints illustration, where artistry and imagination have always ruled. The colors of these charming prints are fresh and bright, the plates are on a creamy paper. Each print measures 6 3/4" by 10 1/4", images do not show entire margin.
