Antique Prints of Seaweed from Esper 1797

While our images are electronically watermarked, the antique prints themselves are not.

Fucus varicatus Seaweed ES11 $125
Each print measures approximately 8 inches wide by 10 inches long

We are enchanted with these beautiful seaweed prints from a fragment of one of the earliest works on seaweeds: Icones Fucorum cum characteribus sytematicis synonimis auctorum et descriptionibus novarum specierum by Eugenius Johann Christoph Esper.

In its entirety, this work consists of 184 beautifully hand colored copper engravings. Each print is on fine, creamy white, hand made chain lined paper that measures 8 inches wide by 10 inches long, with almost no foxing.

There is no descriptive text, but a copy of the title page will accompany these authentic antique prints with original hand coloring. Each print is a dynamic portrayal of a species of fucus, capturing the movement of the plant as it would be in the ocean, with the vibrant original hand coloring enhancing the effect.
