Eisenberg Horse Prints 1727

The artistry and skill of dressage, sometimes referred to as “horse ballet” is expertly rendered in these fine engravings by the hand of Friedrich Wilhelm, Baron Rais d’Eisenberg (ca. 1700-770). With its roots in ancient Greece, dressage came into its own in Western Europe during the Renaissance and modern dressage is based upon a training system for horses and their riders that was developed by the great European riding masters during that period.

The aristocratic Baron von Eisenberg lived in many countries throughout Europe yet wrote most of his works in French, being the most loyal subject of the King of France. His love of horses and riding led to an equestrian career and, ultimately to the publication in French of his work “Decription du Manege Moderne” in 1727 during his stay in England and to which 268 European aristocrats subscribed. It is dedicated to Louis XIV of France and each of its engravings, including the frontispiece, were done by the Baron himself.

The engravings have been masterfully hand colored for us by our English colorists to render the prints superbly decorative. Each print includes its descriptive text, and a copy of the title page will accompany each authentic copper engraving, almost 300 years old. These prints are in superb condition, on silky chain-lined soft white paper, measuring approximately 17 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Please review the photos carefully as they are very accurate. ALL our prints are original antiques, and are guaranteed to be the stated age.
