Each print measures approximately 14” long by 18” wide.

These hand coloured engravings are from the masterpiece of Erik Dahlberg entitled Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, or Ancient and Modern Sweden.   Started in 1660, commissioned by the Swedish crown,  at the time when Sweden was a world power, the work consumed 43 years of his life & was not actually published until after his death.

It is indeed a splendid work, full of romantic castles, gardens, hunting scenes, with an almost fairytale quality.  Though Dahlberg's inspiration was Matthaus Merian, his engravings have a much lighter and more decorative hand.

Each print measures approximately 14” long by 18” wide.  On fine, strong white chain lined paper. They have been beautifully hand colored in England by one of the few remaining professional colorists whose specialty is heraldry & topography. There is no descriptive text but a copy of the title page will be provided.
